Library Committee

A library committee is a group of individuals who are responsible for the governance of a library, including policy-making, resource allocation, and oversight of library operations.” (American Library Association, Glossary of Library and Information Science).  It is a “general policy making body for the library. Library Committee renders advice concerning all Library matters.


The purpose of the Library Committee is to act as a channel of communication between the Library and its users and in the establishment of a bridge between the Library and the academic fraternity and the institute management.This committee is giving in the recommendation of matters regarding the purchase of books, equipment, developments in infrastructure, maintenance. The Library Committee is to support the functioning of the library so that it can facilitate the library development plans by advocating the library development activities with the management.


The powers and functions:

  1. Collection Development: Supervision and managment of collection’s development of library materials
  2. Policy Formulation: Formulation, evaluation and revision of library policies.
  3. Budget Allocation: Planning, assessment, prioritization, allocation and evaluation of  funds for library resources and services.
  4. Strategic Planning: Plan to check on the progress of “vision of libraray” and to develop strategies to adapt to evolving educational and technological landscapes.
  5. User Engagement: Feedback managment from the users and organising events in library.
  6. Assessment and Evaluation: Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of library services. Implementing assessment tools, analyzing data, and recommending improvements.
  7. Emergency Planning: Works for the development of emergency response plans for the library for disaster recovery, security, and safety.

Library Committee Constitution:

  • Principal as Chairman
  • Teaching staff as Co chairman
  • Librarian as Member Secretary
  • Teaching staffs as Executive memebers
  • Students as student memebers


Work Flow

  • Library committee meetings are gathered once in every month in faculty room inside the library.
  • The circular with the date and time of the meeting will be sighned by all the committee members prior to the meeting.
  • The report of the meetings are evaluated by The Principal and further actions are taken.
